This month features a Grand Rapids, Michigan based jewelry store that was retrofitted with required energy efficient lighting. By nature of the jewelry business, plentiful lighting is necessary to create the sparkle in their display cases. Using this retrofit project to reduce electrical usage, Hoffman Jewelers also eliminated the need to constantly discard and purchase replacement bulbs, further lowering maintenance costs.
Hoffman Jewelers reduced energy usage costs by more than 80% on their lighting by switching to WAC Lighting products while also capturing additional savings on reduced air conditioning costs.
The store uses three types of WAC's InvisiLED® Pro architectural grade LED accent and display lighting solutions. They installed 65 feet of WAC’s InvisiLED® Pro 2700K which gives the jewelry a warm radiance within all of the showcases. The next item they installed was 95 feet of InvisiLED Pro 3000K, which was used on the retail wall displays. And finally they installed 95 feet of InvisiLED® Pro 4500K which accented the crystal tableware, jewelry showcases, and the inside of the enclosed and open wall display cases. The concealed LED tape provided even lighting without shadows, great color rendering and an expected long life.
“The owner and employees were all floored by how beautiful and well lit the showcases were,” said Todd Yonkers of Grand Rapids Lighting. "The wall displays were now completely lit so the merchandise was more noticeable to the customers. With the new display lighting, all of the crystal and silver items just popped.”
“By the end of the first day of installation, the owner noticed that the showroom maintained a consistent temperature all day long and the air conditioning was actually shutting down,” continued Mr. Yonkers. “The floor cases were no longer hot to the touch.”
“We are thrilled with the lighting results on all levels," said Michael Hoffman, owner of Hoffman Jewelers. "The new WAC fixtures offer the advantages of beautiful bright displays without the extra heat emitted by traditional lighting." He also noted the new LED lighting provided an additional improvement over “old bulbs and fixtures that accelerated the tarnishing effect on some of our sterling pieces.”
“In addition to the robust lighting and cooler temperature inside the store during this past summer’s heatwaves, we are looking forward to monthly electric bill reductions by more than 3200 watts which will result in tremendous cost savings,” continued Mr. Hoffman.
